In an era of increasingly fierce global competition in higher education and rapid social and technological changes, National Chung Cheng University (CCU), upholding its educational philosophy of pursuing excellence and responding to societal needs, continuously deepens its academic research, strengthens teaching innovation, and actively connects with industry and society. Through a sound academic development strategy and a forward-looking educational layout, the university has achieved remarkable results in academic achievements, research capabilities, and talent cultivation, gradually accumulating international reputation and social influence.

In terms of academic achievement, 20 faculty members were recognized among Stanford University’s Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide. Six disciplines were included in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, with Classics and Ancient History ranking among the global top 100 for three consecutive years, reflecting the University’s diverse academic strengths and growing international visibility. In research and industry collaboration, CCU has successfully spun off eight startup companies spanning fields such as artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, financial technology, and aging societies, translating research into practical applications that address societal needs.

In response to demographic change and rapid social transformation, the University continues to enhance educational quality by strengthening core disciplinary capacities, promoting interdisciplinary learning, and expanding practice-oriented education. Between 2018 and 2024, CCU supported the establishment of 207 student-led startup teams and has received repeated recognition from the Ministry of Education for excellence in entrepreneurship education.

Looking ahead, guided by the core values of freedom, innovation, and humanity, National Chung Cheng University will continue to cultivate critically minded, interdisciplinary, and socially engaged talents, and advance toward a future characterized by diversity, inclusion, and sustainability.

The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) awarded National Chung Cheng University (CCU) a total of 442 research projects, with funding of NT$477,084,092. These high-impact initiatives, supported by CCU, aimed to strengthen innovation capacity across a wide range of academic disciplines and demonstrate the university’s excellence in research and development.

The Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-Tech Innovation (AIM-HI) at CCU focused on advancing digital medical device technologies. To address the national demand for digital healthcare and smart healthcare, AIM-HI prioritized the development of digital treatment planning systems. To overcome the limitations of conventional radiation therapy planning, AIM-HI implemented multi-source medical image fusion and real-time surface tracking technologies. By integrating depth cameras, image fusion systems, and virtual reality technologies, AIM-HI developed a collision prevention system aimed at enhancing surgical safety and improving treatment accuracy.

In advancing customized medical products, AIM-HI integrated both additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies to develop tailored analysis and fabrication manufacturing techniques for medical products such as bone implants. These efforts included in-situ heat treatment during additive manufacturing and customized computer-aided design techniques, providing optimized medical products for patients. This technology effectively overcomes the constraints of traditional standardized medical devices, enhances the degree of product customization, and supports the creation of cyber-physical integrated digital medical device services.

The Center for Labour and Welfare Research on Aging Society at National Chung Cheng University, grounded in the realities of Taiwan's aging society, focuses on key issues such as the working class, social welfare, and human rights. It is committed to deepening theoretical and empirical research on the working class and human resources from a people-centered perspective. The Center combines academic research with policy practice, actively connecting with the planning and implementation of policies related to the social welfare of the elderly. By deeply understanding the characteristics of the local working class and social welfare practices, it responds to real social needs. Simultaneously, the Center connects with local governments, industries, and social welfare organizations to establish a regional research and practice alliance, shaping a research and action platform for the elderly that combines academic depth, policy influence, and social concern.

International Collaboration Highlights

Extensive International Academic Partnerships

National Chung Cheng University has established more than 250 academic cooperation agreements at the university, college, and departmental levels. Its partners include internationally renowned institutions such as the University of New South Wales in Australia (QS World University Rankings: 20), Tohoku University in Japan (QS: 109), Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea (QS: 126), and the University of Strasbourg in France (QS: 420), with which CCU has formed university-level alliances. In addition, CCU has developed dual-degree programs with partner universities in countries such as Japan, France, and the United States. These initiatives actively support students in broadening their international perspectives, while also encouraging faculty members to apply for bilateral exchange programs and short-term overseas research opportunities, thereby deepening long-term collaborative relationships.

Diverse Faculty and Student Composition

CCU’s full-time faculty members come from a wide range of international backgrounds, including the United States, Japan, Thailand, India, and Hong Kong. The University also invites distinguished international scholars, such as Professor Andrew David Green from University College London, to serve as Yushan Visiting Professors, and provides various support services to assist international faculty and researchers with daily life in Taiwan

A Growing Global Campus with Diverse International Talent

International students account for more than 5 percent of the total student population, with major source countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. In recent years, CCU has also actively expanded recruitment efforts in Europe and the Americas, with students from countries such as Russia and Argentina enrolling at the University. Furthermore, through the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP), CCU hosts short-term interns from Europe and the Americas with the goal of cultivating global talent, and currently ranks first nationwide in terms of the number of TEEP interns hosted.

Research & Industry Collaboration Highlights

National Chung Cheng University (CCU) is a research-oriented comprehensive university. It is located in Chiayi county, center of several important industries in Taiwan, including smart manufacturing, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and semiconductor packaging. As a result, CCU has established strong teams in these fields with close collaboration with industries. A recent example is the establishment of silicon photonics research team. In addition, Chiayi county is the most serious aging society in Taiwan, which motivates CCU to form a strong research team in gerontology and aging–related research, dedicating to provide the local and central governments with the solutions for dealing with aging society.

CCU continues to receive large-scale research funding from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and other organizations. In 2025, there are 692 industry-academia collaboration research projects, totaling NT$999.02 million. For new and/or young faculty members, CCU has established several funding support programs, including tutoring program for the NSTC project applications and start-up funding. 

As part of university’s social responsibility, CCU has transformed its research outcomes into not only academic papers, but also real-world applications, through patents, technology transfers, and start-up companies. As of October 2025, CCU owns a total of 8 spin-off startups with a combined paid-up capital of NT$ 313 million.
